Lovin’ Spoonfuls is the only all-vegan restaurant in Tucson, Arizona, and in my opinion, the best vegan restaurant I have ever been to (and I’ve probably been to at least a hundred throughout the U.S. and Europe). If you want the tastiest vegan chicken nuggets (called “golden nuggets” with a variety of dipping sauce choices and carrot as a primary ingredient), then you’ve got to try theirs.
Fun to me, and interesting for all, Lovin’ Spoonfuls keeps a nice stock of vegan pamphlets in an area right by their amazing desserts. They also offer T-shirts, DVDs, and books for sale. Plus, Peggy (the owner) makes cat-photo greeting cards and jewelry whose proceeds are directly donated to a different animal-friendly charity each month.
Recently I had the chance to interview Peggy Raisglid, a.k.a. Dr. Margaret Raisglid, the owner of Lovin’ Spoonfuls. She was a delight to talk with and her laugh is contagious! I asked her about why she became vegan, why she opened Lovin’ Spoonfuls Cafe, what special meals they serve for various holidays throughout the year, what her plans are for the future, and many more questions.
In addition to being a successful restauranteur, Peggy has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and is an entrepreneur once again with her amazing coin counting machine for counting coins from cash registers faster and more accurately. She’s “coined” this gadget a WeighFasterTM. I think this makes her even more amazing!
